Wantage, located in Oxfordshire is a civil parish and small market town in The Vale of The White Horse District. It is located approximately 15 miles south-west of central oxford. It is historically known to be part of Berkshire and is most remarkable as the birth place of King Alfred the Great in 849. Wantage has become part of the enlarged Oxfordshire area. Wantage’s history dates back all the way to 1086 where it appears in the Domesday Book. It was also once a small Roman settlement. Today, Wantage has a total population of 11,327 people including 16 councillors and it has recently been awarded a town centre award as it is now recognised as innovative town centre.
